This is how my friend Marietta described my slowly-evolving crochet project. A couple of months ago, in March I think, I bought a bunch of yarn online and thought that I would make my sister an afghan for her graduation present.
The yarn came and it was much thinner than I was expecting (though I followed the pattern and bought what the book called for), though the colors were great. I made my first granny square and it was *much* smaller than I had expected. I was a little discouraged, but for at least a month I plowed ahead and made about 20 squares, alternating the color scheme. Then I got sick to death of the project and haven't touched the thing until the other night, when I decided to try and figure out what I was going to do. So I stitched like-colored squares together and then gave the larger squares a dark brown border. Voila! I have something started. Here's a picture. The squares are 6 inches on each side.
Marietta's right, though. This will be my mid-20s craft project. I'll work on it in fits and spurts until one day I run out of yarn. Maybe it can be my sister's graduation gift for *grad* school. Surely I have a couple of years before that. At the rate I'm going, I should think ahead for any possible nieces and nephews and get started on some baby blankets as well!
